I guessed my ex-husband’s messenger/email password and obtained crucial information that i would like to use in court for our custody case. Did I do anything illegal and are the emails admissable in court? According to the emails, he has manipulated the court system and perpetrated mail fraud and identity theft(against our children).Although we have shared parental rights and responsibilities, he has relocated 1800 miles away. If it were not for my dumb-luck in guessing his password, I would not know where my children are. Also dumb-luck, he saved all of his emails where he wrote all of his new information and details about how he would get away without me knowing and have it be “legal” in the courts eyes, based on the information that they had presented to them. Without these emails to prove what really happened, I have no recourse. I would like to go to court and be able to be honest about how I obtained this evidence, or have I, myself broken the law. I cannot find such a law.
